A 10-year-old girl from São Paolo, Brazil has suffered cardiac arrest just 12 hours after receiving her first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, reports O Globo. Luisa Petenuci, a resident of São Paolo’s municipality Lençóis Paulista, was vaccinated on Tuesday, January 18th and collapsed shortly after.
Luisa was vaccinated on Tuesday after the local municipality launched their COVID-19 immunization drive for children in the 5-11 age group. According to her father, the 10-year-old experienced changes in heart rate shortly after and collapsed unexpectedly.
She was then rushed to a private hospital where the 10-year-old had to be resuscitated. After being stabilized, Luisa was then transferred to Unimed Hospital in Botucatu where she currently remains in intensive care.
Following the incident, Lençóis Paulista municipality announced an immediate halt to vaccinations for children aged 5-11. The 46 children who had received the jab since the start of the rollout on Tuesday are now being closely monitored, reports the municipality in a statement.
