1.9 Million Bell Customer Email Addresses Stolen by ‘Anonymous Hacker’

1,700 names & phone numbers and 1.9 million email addresses were stolen from BELL Company database.

Bell says that they are working with RCMP to investigate the company data breach. It’s not clear when the breach occurred and how the data was accessed, or how long the attacker had access to the Bell’s data systems. The anonymous hacker stole 1.9 email addresses and approximately 1,700 names and phone numbers.

Bell Canada stated that there is no indication that any financial, password or other sensitive personal information was accessed. This incident is not connected to the recent global WannaCry malware attacks.

Bell Canada apologizes to their customers for this situation and are contacting those affected directly.

Bell took immediate steps to secure affected systems. The company has been working closely with the RCMP cybercrime unit in its investigation and has informed the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
